Handicapping

BREADSALL PRIORY HANDICAP SECTION

Below you will find a guide to obtaining a handicap. The handicap team are available to answer any queries you may have on handicap matters.

For new ladies joining a club the rules and regulations may seem daunting, so let’s try to get you get started by first giving you the basics of how to obtain a handicap.

You will first need to submit 3 cards that must have been played over 18 holes on a measured course and signed by a competent person. One of the rounds must be played by a member of the ladies committee. A measured course means one that complies with Ladies Golf Union (L.G.U.criteria)

At Breadsall you can only gain a handicap on the Priory course in the summer season [April /October], on the Moorland course the period is longer but only when certain conditions apply, please contact the handicap team for details

Before going out to play you must register your intention to do so by signing your name in the New Handicaps book, which is available on the desk in the Ladies locker room.

Upon completion of your round make sure that both you and your playing partner have signed the card, and then place it in the wooden box on the bench in the ladies locker room.

If the cards are acceptable you will be allotted a handicap maximum 36 if your score is equal to or more than 36 over the standard scratch of the course and a handicap lower if your score is less than 36 over standard scratch.

[e.g.: your total score is 110 on the Moorland course and the SS is 74

110 - 74 = 36

A handicap certificate will be issued upon completion of 3 acceptable cards and this will be found in the folder marked ‘Handicap Certificates’ on the bench in the ladies locker room. You will need to play in at least 3 Medal,Stableford or similar competitions each season to keep your handicap Active
